Returning Serve

As an individual whose primary focus is to constantly improve, I welcome constructive criticism and feedback from clients. That said, intentionally leaving out key information from a negative review is a deliberate act of deceptional retaliation. Actions like this are unwise as I will enthusiastically return serve with accuracy, finesse, and conviction. The truth always matters.
More than ever, my policies regarding the pandemic are well-defined and crystal clear. They are not arbitrarily selected, nor are they ever hidden from view. Quite the opposite, this business has always maintained abundantly transparent communication principles from site through scissors. This is vital as cutting hair is an intimate physical exchange, especially within my studio with sessions being exclusively one-to-one for 90 minutes. As such, is it my duty of care to provide a safe and supportive space for those who come here. In return, clients too need to ensure that I too feel safe and supported. Thankfully, most instinctively offer this and I am entirely grateful.

When there is an unfortunate breach of policy, unless I feel physical unsafe or threatened, the booking will proceed to it's natural conclusion and I will remain a steadfast professional throughout. The goal is always for the client to have a positive session and result, even though I may not wish for them to return. In case there are any lingering questions, the following are not tolerated.

  • Behaviours regarding COVID-19 which can put others health and well-being at risk.
  • Racist, abusive or non-inclusive language towards Immigrants, Minority groups, Aboriginal peoples, Muslims and or LGBTQ+ communities.

Thankfully, it is very, very rare when a client is told they cannot return. In fact, in the 15 years I've worked in Australia, there have only been approximately 7 such instances. 5 of them were individuals who used strong racist language, and a further 2 for COVID related issues. Given I've had 2885 unique visits to my studio over the last 13 years, that is .0025% who have been informed they are not welcome back. Aren't maths great?

Again, I absolutely welcome constructive criticism and feedback. This is precisely how I have achieved continuing success both here and overseas. As a person who is extremely self-critical, I tend to reflect deeply on the experiences of others when things don't resolve well. The result of this reflection is to ensure constant refinement, both personally and professionally. That said, when others are being critical of this practice, its policies or even the writing, it is recommended to always be truthful and transparent. If not, my return serve will be tactfully tenacious.
