Private Practice Development
This is not foundational training, mentoring, or a technical apprenticeship.
This is a Private Practice Development session for established hairdressers who already work with curly, textured, or otherwise challenging hair types and want their existing consultation process, cutting logic, and professional judgement examined in depth.
I do not teach techniques or step-by-step methods. I do not work with students or those seeking foundational education. If you are looking to learn how to cut hair from the ground up, this is not the right service.
What this is
A one-on-one, in-studio analysis of your current way of working.
You conduct a full consultation and haircut on your own model while I observe, question, and interrupt where needed. I am not teaching you how to cut hair. I am helping you see what you are already doing, what your decisions are based on, and where your process may be unclear, automatic, or incomplete.
The session examines your consultation, your reading of the client, your technical choices, your sequencing, your weight distribution, and your ability to connect the haircut to the client’s real-life needs. The purpose is diagnostic. It assumes you already have an established method of working and are prepared to have that method examined closely.
Structure
Total time: up to four hours.
The session consists of a three-hour in-studio analysis under observation, followed by an offsite break for reflection, and a thirty-minute return Q&A to address follow-up questions once the work has had time to settle.
This structure is intentional. Useful insight often becomes clearer after some distance from the work, not only during the appointment itself.
Model Requirements
You must supply your own model. This person must not be a hair industry peer, co-worker, or student.
The model must be a willing, quiet, and patient participant. They must be prepared for direct questioning from me about their hair history, their experience of your consultation, and what they are hoping the haircut will address.
It is your responsibility to ensure the model understands the nature of the session and is comfortable being part of a professional observation environment. This includes physical requirements, such as standing for extended periods during dry cutting and shape assessment.
What this requires
This is suited to hairdressers who are open to being questioned, challenged, and corrected in real time.
It is not suitable for those who need reassurance, step-by-step instruction, or a conventional teaching format. The feedback is direct, specific, and focused on the work.
The expectation is professional composure, reflective capacity, and the ability to stay present while your consultation process and technical decisions are examined.
How I work in this context
The feedback is direct and specific. I work through real-time interruption, stopping the process where necessary to question the logic of a decision, the sequence of the work, the reading of the hair, or the interpretation of the client’s needs.
I will critique your consultation process and technical execution. Once the haircut is complete, we will conduct a final analysis of the result, including shape, balance, weight distribution, grow-out, and whether the haircut is likely to resolve well over the following months.
The intention is to shift attention from the immediate finish to the quality of the process and the longer-term behaviour of the haircut. The goal is clarity, sharper judgement, and a more independent capacity to assess your own work.
I hold myself to the same standard. If I overstep, misread, or make an error, I will acknowledge it and correct course. This is a professional exchange grounded in mutual responsibility.
What this is not
This is not a learning pathway. It is not technique transfer. It is not certification, progression, or ongoing mentorship.
Some hairdressers leave with refined clarity and a stronger understanding of their own work. Others may recognise that this level of scrutiny is not compatible with how they currently practise. Both outcomes are valid.
Fees
AUD $5,000 per session. GST inclusive.
The fee reflects the intensity, scope, and preparation required for this level of one-on-one professional analysis. Payment is required in full prior to booking.
Conditions
One session per hairdresser per calendar month. No refunds or rescheduling.
Written model consent is required. No recording, filming, attribution, or marketing claims are permitted.
I reserve the right to decline future sessions if the work, expectations, or conduct are incompatible with the conditions of the salon.
